Claim Your Name on Microsoft's

Claim Your Name on Microsoft’s Panel

Claim your name before someone else does!

Hotmail is a goner. Microsoft has just rolled out their new email service called I’ve written several times before about the importance of  claiming your name and control your name and branding online, and this is another opportunity to do just that.

Go to and sign up. My recommendation is to use your preferred name that you use on your other social sites like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.  Do it now, or someone else will be using your name and/or brand for their email address. Whether you are going to use this at all doesn’t matter. If you ever need to, you will have the opportunity to do so.

Consistency is a valuable tool in controlling your online presence.

Here is an example of how I use my name:

  • LinkedIn:
  • Twitter:    @milesaustin
  • Facebook:
  • Website:
  • and now email is:

You remember how you felt when you went to customize your LinkedIn Profile URL as I recommend everyone do, and your name was already taken? Don’t let it happen this time.

There are several other reasons to create an account with, including social media integration platforms, and will write about those in the days ahead.

For now, go claim your name on and rest easier tonight.

Go claim your name!

Done! Thanks for the heads up. The majority of my stuff is consistent, but one of my only regrets in life is that I never bought — yes because it was 14 years ago when I started my business and I was NOT the savvy girlie then that I am now. (In other words, I’m a dork) But the rest of my stuff (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and now Outlook mail) is “/MonicaRicci — Thanks again for the heads up Miles! :o)

MonicaRicci 14 years ago most of us didn’t realize you could even buy a domain name! I bought my children domain names of their names many years ago for Christmas presents, and that has paid off very well for them.  I now give them as gifts to the parents of newborns that are family and friends.By the way, it appears that is up for reneewal this year-might be worth using a backorder service to grab it if it is not renewed.  Expiration Date: 16-dec-2012Thanks for adding your comments and for reading Fill the Funnel!
